Appearance Reset Potions are an item in Elder Tale used to change fundamental parts of a player's avatar, which normally cannot be changed after character creation.
At the time the Catastrophe hits, Appearance Reset Potions were only released once during the game's lifespan, making them extremely rare items.[1] Since then, The Roderick Firm has developed a weaker version of it that allows players to change up to two parameters per use.[2]
Purpose[]
After picking their avatar's race, class, and name, players can adjust their gender, height and body build, facial texture, hairstyle, eye color, and hair color. Within the body build category are another dozen elements to fine-tune, including chest diameter, leg length, and shoulder width.[1]
All appearance-related parameters in the customization screen (besides race) are purely cosmetic and have no effect on combat ability.
Synopsis[]
Before the Catastrophe[]
Eight years before the story begins, shortly after Shiroe began playing the game, Appearance Reset Potions were given out as a limited-edition item in some shoddily-made promotion for an ultimately-unsuccessful voice actor.[1]
Because the parameters had no effect on combat ability, Appearance Reset Potions were considered a joke by the playerbase.
After the Catastrophe[]
Those stuck in the Theldesian world found themselves inside their avatars' bodies. While some traits of their original bodies were reflected in the post-Catastrophe world, their bodies were otherwise the same as their avatars'. A portion of players who abruptly found themselves in the bodies of the opposite sex (and with the genitalia to match) were deeply uncomfortable with the change, making the potion in high demand. Akatsuki, for example, flagged down Shiroe after seeing him cross her path by chance, knowing that he was an owner of the rare Appearance Reset Potion.[1]
Within six months after the Catastrophe, Roderick developed a mass-produced version of the Appearance Reset Potion which could change up to two of the appearance parameters at once. This significantly decreased the number of cases of players who were unable to adjust to their avatars' genders.[2]
Used By[]
- Akatsuki, to change her much taller male avatar into something closer to her real-life body.[1]
- Magus, also to switch from her male avatar to match her real-life body.
