Instrument Crafter, also called Luthier, is a Production subclass in Elder Tale.[1]

Overview[]

A derivative subclass of the Woodworker specialized in music instruments. Some of them are called Luthiers when they specialize in stringed instruments like violins, guitars, and lutes. Unlike what its name entails, Instrument Crafters can still craft furniture, wooden weapons and armor. However, their ability to create them is lowered while instruments are easier to make and can have bonuses.

Music instruments are mainly equipment for Bards and specific subclasses, making the demand less important than other Production subclasses who can cover more class specializations. For this reason, many Bards have this subclass to cater for their own needs and create their own instruments. This profession can bring in quite a bit of gold, as people are willing to pay higher prices for rarer or more complex instruments, which makes up for the large amounts of materials and skill needed.

Instrument Crafter is a very rare occupation among People of the Earth. Because there are no composers and because the culture of music is uncommon, the need for musical instruments is even lower than it was during Earth's medieval era. The few who exist mainly live in cities working for orchestras owned by nobles and occasional minstrels while having simple woodworking jobs on the side.

A detailed article was written about this subclass in “Log Horizon Wednesday Vol. 28” like many other subclasses.
