Isaac and Iselus is the twenty-third episode of the Log Horizon 2 anime and is the second episode in the Noosphere arc. It first aired March 14, 2015.
Synopsis[]
Roderick informs Shiroe that a lunar communication would cost an astronomical amount of money to build. On top of that, Roderick isn't even sure whether the device would actually work. Even though Shiroe is disappointed, Akatsuki tells him not to worry about it, or he'll get old man wrinkles.
Elsewhere Touya and the Log Horizon junior members discuss whether they want to return to Earth. Some want to stay while others want to go home to see their family.
Back in Maihama, Isaac doesn't fail to notice that the city is becoming more like Akiba. However, Iselus points out that it's good that the People of the Earth are absorbing the Adventurers' culture and developing their own. While walking around the market, Isaac gets the feeling that they're being followed.
Afterward, Lord Sergiad summons Isaac and explains that he intends to announce Iselus as the next heir to the Cowen family. He said that even though he has a son, this son is not Cowen blood, and that furthermore, Iselus' older sisters wouldn't be suitable for the job, thus leaving the young boy as the only choice.
As a result, Sergiad asks Isaac to continue watching over young Iselus. Some evenings later, Calasin discusses the growing tensions between Westelande and Eastal with Isaac.
On the night of Iselus' birthday, Maihama hosts a banquet to celebrate his birthday and announce him as the next Duke of Maihama. While Sergiad is confident that his grandson will be a great ruler, he still expresses his regret for making him bear such enormous responsibility. Soon, Raynesia arrives, accompanied by Rieze, and she shares a brief chat with her younger brother before he makes his debut.
Later that night, a guest presents Iselus with a fruit juice from the guests' land. However, before the prince can take a drink, Isaac stops him, accusing the guest of trying to assassinate the boy. The guest and several of his peers reveal themselves to actually be Foxtails from Westelande aiming to assassinate Prince Iselus, and Isaac identifies them as the People of the Earth that Minami had been power-leveling. Luckily, Isaac, with support from Calasin and Rezarick, manage to protect the young boy from harm.
Calasin calls Shiroe after the fact, and Shiroe takes this event as confirmation that the Adventurers' presence in Theldesia post-Catastrophe is distorting the People of the Earth's society. Li Gan then visits Shiroe and relays his latest findings. On top of that, he tells them that while investigating the gates, he detected a faint signal from the Shibuya broadcast building, which had previously been thought to be defunct. Before he can explain more, Isaac calls Shiroe demanding to know what is going on, as People of the Earth, such as Lord Sergiad himself, have fallen asleep and won't wake up.
Suddenly, Touya bursts in and inform them that the same is happening in Akiba as well. To make matters worse, a black cloud is showering the city with strange spores.
Differences from the Light Novel[]
Note: This episode aired before the web novel and light novel versions were released.
- It is not mentioned that Isaac had personally been relieved of the duty of training the Glass Greaves after his training methods were deemed too harsh for the Earthling knights.
- More of the Black Sword rank and file are present in the banquet hall when the Westelande assassins reveal themselves, while in the anime, it's just Rezarick plus D.D.D.'s Rieze, who is defending Raynesia.
- In the light novel, Sergiad does not fall asleep due to the assault of the eternal moths.
